Only The Best For The FVF! "The UK's Volunteer Of the Year 2006" - LES HEYHOE Prior to the near fatal car accident of television's Top Gear presenter RICHARD HAMMOND , a  National Awards Ceremony  was held at the Hilton London Metropolean  Hotel. An awards ceremony was  run in partnership by the Institiute of fundraising and the  P rofessional Fundraising magazine and supported by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)  to acknowledge a selection of the most influential and well respected fundraisers from across the UK's sector to an audience of more than 700 people. A 'This Is Your Life' style speech was given by presenter Richard Hammond in honour of LES HEYHOE who Richard said ''had potentially more chance of winning the national lotto of odds of 14 million to 1 as oppossed to being selected for the award  as  'The United Kingdom's Volunteer Fundraiser Of The Year 2006'  out of the 22 million fundraising volunteers, a comment that for once left Les speechless on the night . Sunday 9th July 2006 Airborne Forces Day South - Pompey Para Spectacular In spite of the weather attempting to spoil the day, ironic it seemed to be good old South Atlanctic FI's weather welcoming for the first time a contingent of FVF veterans. Irrespective of the wind and rain, the day itself was a resounding success for the 16th year and was enjoyed by all present. Click here to see pictures

SUMMER SHOW
The weekend site was manned by LES HEYHOE & RAY METCALFE (9.30am - 6.30pm) and ably assisted by the Chief Executive Derek 'SMOKEY' Cole to raise the profile and awareness of the good work of the FVF, its aims and current main objective. Certainly a worthwile venue with several Falkland Veterans and their families coming over to discuss the past, their current difficulties and challenges, together with the proposed plans for 2007. To attract the individuals and crowds (it proved difficult on the 2nd day as the England team were attempting to play competitive football and only just scarpped through) the FVF's usual game of 'Play Your Cards Right' was there to entice people over and of course it then gave RAY the opportunity to promote and sell the CD/DVD 'The Journey' in support of the FVF. This has meant that all the yellow and red cards plus other incidental fines amassed a donation of The FVF supports fair play and gentlemanly conduct but on this occasion it acknowledges the financial contribution of all the league teams for their ‘unruly contribution'. Thank you!

Any other Treasurer or League Secretary reading this might also wish to give it some thought as to donating their fines or members contributions

Great South
Run

Ex-HMS Sheffield Falklands Veteran Alasdair ‘GILLY' GILCHRIST has for the 3 rd year ‘running' (excuse the pun) participated in the 13 th year of this organised 10 mile course around Portsmouth and Southsea. This year 15,000 runners of all ages, male and female, pounded the course hampered by very wind conditions and the men's run was won by Hendrick Ramaala, finishing in a time of 47:14 – considering Gilly's age (sch we tell he's a young 43) he finished the 10 mile course in a time of 1hr 24 of 1hr 24 mins., a magnificent achievement and even more remarkable due to the fact he raised much needed funds for the FVF whilst doing it ……. many thanks again Gilly and let's hope you are an inspiration to others to pursue fundraising activities in support of the FVF.
