The most prestigious event organised by the SOE is without a doubt the Overlord Military Vehicle Show which has been held on the late May Bank Holiday for probably 20 years or so now at various venues in the South, but is now established on extensive private land owned by Jack Trickett at Horndean.
The show offers the public the opportunity to see a wide range of historic and modern military vehicles in action and talk to their owners. Following on from last years very successful show, 2006 is scheduled to be a much larger event. It is estimated that in excess of 400 vehicles will be present on the site. These vehicles covering the period from the 1930's up to the current day arrive from all over the U.K and even some exhibitors travelling from France , Belgium and Germany ...... Exercising Freedom Rights – 28 th March 2007 (A date for your diary!) |
|
|
It is proposed for the Ministry of Defence to withdraw from the Royal Hospital Haslar site on 31 st March 2007 . A military connection has existed at Haslar Hospital since 1746 when it first took injured and sick sailors.
The Royal Hospital Haslar with the support of the Defence Medical Services has indicated that it will exercise its Freedom Rights on the 28 th March 2007 .
This Freedom Parade will obviously have tremendous historic significance, as it will mark the closure of the last traditional military hospital in Great Britain . It will also be an opportunity for people from a wide area to acknowledge and show gratitude for those current and past Armed Forces who have a strong link with Haslar and the Borough of Gosport. This is particularly so as the last 75 years has seen a much valued service become a tri-service facility........ Click Here To Find Out More >> |

Gosport Cribbage League – 2005 / 2006 Season |
|
| Les Heyhoe , FVF Fundraising & Events Manager, was delighted to be contacted by The Gosport Cribbage Secretary, Roger Wiseman of 5 Cavanna Close, Rowner , Gosport (Tel. 01329 282079 – email: roger.wiseman@btinternet.com) and advised that it had been agreed by all 18 teams at the League's Annual General Meeting that 50% of this season's Singles & Doubles Knockout Tournament entrance fees were to be donated to the FVF instead of being used to purchase trophies and cash prizes awarded instead with the remaining 50%. The season began on Tuesday 6 th September, running through until May 2006. Last season saw 70 individuals and 80 pairs enter the tournaments so it is anticipated a sum in excess of £120 to be donated during this forthcoming season. The ‘Coors' Cribbage League has 18 teams from local public houses, clubs and associations, which comprise of a minimum of 8 players to play their matches every Tuesday evening commencing at 8.30pm.
Do you belong to a Cribbage, 5 or 6 A-Side-Football, Indoor Cricket, Ten Pin Bowling, Badminton League (the list of activities is endless) but are fed up with receiving all those dust collecting trophies, then why not say at your next AGM “Let's from the cash taken at the beginning of the season or to enter the various knockout competitions, donate 50% of it to Charity i.e. the FVF ”. With 29,000 holders of the South Atlantic Medal, even if only 1% take part in some form of activity where trophies are distributed then at least £3,000 could be raised on the basis of the above.
